Lead water service lines in Lévis

In Lévis, municipal pipes contain no lead, but some homes built between 1940 and 1980 may have it in their private service line. A water entry pipe is probably lead if it is grey, leaves metallic marks when scratched and does not attract a magnet. The City can test your water for free under certain criteria; otherwise, an accredited laboratory at your cost. Since November 2022, every lead private line is prohibited and must be replaced within 4 years (By-law RV-2022-22-55); on request, the City grants a subsidy of 100% of eligible costs, up to $2,500 per line. Until then: run the cold water until it is cooler, then 1 to 2 minutes more; drink and cook with cold water; clean the aerator; if needed, a filter certified to NSF 53. Boiling the water does not help.
