Electricians: what to know here
Greater Montréal holds 49% of the licensed companies in this trade in Quebec: 1,890 of 3,882, going by the active licences as of November 3, 2026. Of our 15 trades, this one comes 5.
Electrical work in a building is done by a contractor holding subcategory 16 of the RBQ licence, issued by the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ), which is why people speak of a “master electrician”. Panel changes, new circuits, lighting, a charging station for an electric car, bringing old wiring up to code before a sale or a renovation: every job touches the safety of the building and the people in it.

Before you ask for quotes
Electrical work must be done by an electrical contractor holding subcategory 16. These licences are issued by the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ).
In your request, give the panel’s amperage if you know it, the age of the building, how many circuits you need and, for a charger, the distance from the panel to the parking spot. Grants for chargers and electrification change often: check them on the programme’s own website before you sign.
