According to the City of Magog, a certificate of authorization is required to renovate or repair a building. Some work is exempt if it does not change the foundations, partitions or structure, does not increase the floor area or volume and is not related to damage from a disaster: painting, gutters, mortar joints, kitchen or bathroom cabinets, floor coverings, repairing or replacing electrical, plumbing (without changing the septic system) or heating equipment, re-roofing with an identical or similar material, and replacing doors or windows of the same size. A certificate is still required for a bedroom door or window, insulating exterior walls and foundation drains; a porch, balcony or staircase needs a permit. In a PIIA zone, an application is required even for work that would otherwise be exempt. Applications are made online.
