According to the City of Sorel-Tracy, a building permit or a certificate of authorization is essential for most construction or renovation work, for example to alter, renovate or enlarge a building, change the use of a property, or redo the roof or the exterior cladding. You cannot start before you have the permit or the certificate. To build, enlarge or alter a building, detailed plans prepared by a professional are required. Several permits can be applied for entirely online; for renovations, the City also offers a form to return by email to the Planning Department, which it advises you to consult before any project.
