Describe your electrical work
Details that help an electrician
An electrician needs to know the existing installation. Note the panel’s amperage (100 or 200 amps, for example, marked on the main breaker), its rough age and whether any fuses remain. Say how many circuits you want to add and for which appliances: range, dryer, heat pump, hot tub, workshop.
For an EV charger, give the distance from the panel to the parking spot and say whether the cable would run through the basement, a garage or outside. For a renovation, name the rooms involved and whether the walls will be opened. Give the year the building went up: in an older building, the company will want to see the wiring before giving a price.
Who is allowed to do electrical work
Electrical work in a building requires subcategory 16 of the RBQ licence. Most companies holding it get their licence from the Corporation des maîtres électriciens du Québec (CMEQ), which issues it to its members: that is why people speak of a “master electrician”. Check the licence number in the register before the visit and have it written on the contract.

How many electricians will get my request?

Are there any fees?
None for you. Filling in the request, reading the answers and checking a licence are free, and you never have to follow up.
Are my contact details shared?
Only if you choose so. Without your consent, electricians answer through the site without seeing your name, email or phone; they see the type of work, the city, the timing, the budget and, if you allow it, the description.
Can I have an EV charger installed?
Yes, it is electrical work: it calls for a holder of subcategory 16. Financial help for chargers changes often; check it on the website of the body that offers it before you sign.
