Renovation permits in Pointe-Claire
According to the City of Pointe-Claire, a building permit is required before any construction, alteration or extension of a building or a deck, excavation, installing a fireplace or a heating system, replacing a heating system with another type, and changing the exterior appearance of a building subject to the PIIA by-law. Regular maintenance and minor repairs do not need one, but must comply with the by-laws. Replacing or repairing private service lines needs a certificate of authorization, except French drains, which need a building permit. For a renovation, the plans show the existing building and the planned changes. You apply through the online platform or by email; anyone filing for the owner must have the owner’s written authorization. No work can begin before the permit is issued, and it must be posted on the site, visible from the street.
